Flu Vaccine Update from Pediatric Associates

Flu activity is decreasing in the United States now, however activity is unpredictable. CDC continues to recommend vaccination against seasonal and H1N1 flu.

H1N1 and Seasonal Flu Vaccines
– Scheduling shot-only visits for all ages.

We are out of seasonal flu vaccine for children 3 years and older.  However, we do have ample seasonal flu vaccine infant doses in preservative-free pre-filled syringes. Children 3 years and older would need 2 seasonal flu shots at the time of the visit to make sure that they are adequately protected against the seasonal flu virus. You will only be charged for one dose of the vaccine.

If not administered on the same day, then one month should separate live vaccines such as FluMist® nasal spray, MMR, and varicella (chickenpox).  The flu shot (in muscle) is not a live vaccine.  Please inform us of any vaccines received elsewhere.

If under 10 years old, then a second dose of H1N1 flu vaccine is recommended:

1st dose
H1N1 flu vaccine

2nd dose
H1N1 flu vaccine

NO safety concerns exist with recent recalls of H1N1 flu vaccine (shots and nasal spray) due to a small decrease in antigen levels.  This should not change effectiveness.  None of the vaccine given at Pediatric Associates is involved in the recall.
